Where is it? Located in the upscale neighbourhood of New Cairo, east of the Nile, Kazuko offers delicately prepared contemporary Japanese cuisine to its increasingly discerning clientele. Approaching the restaurant is an experience in itself, taking a winding path through tennis courts and gardens to arrive at the double-height wooden doors of the restaurant's entrance.
On the menu: The menu, designed by acclaimed chef Reif Othman and executive chef Mostafa Gabr, boasts a serious selection of sushi and sashimi. Mains include slow-cooked glazed short ribs, beef udon noodles and five-spiced chicken. To accommodate the local customs, diners are also offered imaginative mocktails designed by beverage director Walid Merhi.
Well-sourced ingredients: Owner Ayman Baky takes pride in the provenance of the ingredients used, going to great lengths to source the best local and international produce for the benefit of his diners. This iterative process encourages ingredient discovery and creativity, with regular local and international trips by the R&D team to inform continual menu development.
Part of the Baky family: The Baky group boasts two other establishments currently recognised on the MENA's 50 Best Restaurants 2026 list: Sachi Cairo (No.37), and Reif Kushiyaki Cairo (No.20).
What's in a name? The restaurant takes its name from the Japanese concept of kazoku, a chosen family bound by trust, loyalty and connection.
