The town of Rubano may be small, but Le Calandre makes it well worth a trip. Boasting big flavour and experimentation with presentation styles, this kitchen was founded by the Italian culinary Alajmo family's Massimiliano (Max) and Raffaele Alajmo. Having taken over the family restaurant in 1994, and the sons have since turned it into both an award-winning icon and the heart of the Alajmo Group, now spanning 12 restaurants across three countries. Choose from the long loved signatures, which include the Cappuccino Murrina, a tribute to Venice's glass-blowing heritage with cuttlefish, sea urchin and finished with beetroot and spirulina and saffron risotto spiked with earthy liquorice: a tribute to Max's wife and to her homeland, Calabria. The wine list boasts has some seriously high-end pours priced too.
